How much was raised at the run?
Over $4,300 in entry fees were raised at the May 2012 race, and after participating in the race and learning about the Survivor, runner Jessica Stock submitted the Survivor’s story to the South Shore 100 Women Who Care, who provided an additional donation of $3,000 to the Bloomingdale Library Survivor through their organization.
How many people participated?
187 participants ran in the 5K and 1-mile fun run.
What was the money raised used for?
Money raised was used for purchase of a custom therapy bicycle that enables the Survivor to gain her independence through continued physical therapy while enjoying the outdoors and mobility that cycling brings.
How is your sister doing at present; what needs does she currently have?
The Survivor continues to make improvements through intense therapy sessions where she works very hard. Her busy schedule includes both physical and occupational therapy sessions, speech therapy, oxygen therapy, acupuncture and the unique Therasuit bungee cord therapy. Costs for these sessions are approximately $4,000 a month.
Next year will mark the five-year anniversary of the incident, and the Survivor’s family asks the community for continued friendship, prayers and support. They are currently working with a web design company to develop a website for the Survivor that will share her story through pictures and videos, which will be unveiled around the Survivor’s birthday in April 2013.
