The family of Queena Vuong will host a public vigil for the Bloomingdale library attack survivor from 1:30-3 p.m. on Sunday at the Bell Shoals Baptist Church-Brandon Campus located at 2102 Bell Shoals Road.
In 2008, Queena survived being raped and severely beaten outside of the Bloomingdale Library.
With Kendrick Morris’ re-sentencing being delivered on March 9, the family wants to welcome the community to show support and pray with them for a fair and just outcome.
A jury convicted Morris on all counts in relation to Queena’s attack and was sentenced to 65 years in prison.
Now, Morris could have his sentence reduced due to a U.S. Supreme Court decision stating that sentencing juveniles to life or lengthy sentences in prison is cruel and unusual punishment.
The re-sentencing took place on Feb. 9, 2017 and both the State and Prosecution presented their arguments.
Judge Chet Tharpe is taking time to review the case and consider all things before delivering a final statement on March 9.
Queena and her classmates at Pyramid School need art supplies for their classes. Attendees of the prayer vigil are asked to bring arts and crafts supplies, both used and new, as a donation to Pyramid in Queena’s name.
